With a voice that has come of age through his music, Chris Brady embodies the sound of honesty – his songs can tumble through frustration, loss and desire and still regain a sense of naivety and optimism.
Formerly the singer-songwriter of punk-fuelled rock band Jilted, 24-year-old Chris has been an involved and devoted member of the Brisbane music scene for seven years, establishing a name touring and recording with some of the nation’s most promising acts including Halfday, James Grehan, Wheel and, currently, the roots-rock sensation Andrew Morris and the Dry Bones.
Throughout his collaborative work, Chris has continued to write and perform his own beautifully constructed emotive soul pop music, prompting a solo career that has taken him to various clubs and top venues around the country. Now, to take his lone venture a step further, Chris has recorded his anticipated first EP Mexican Eyes with Jarsonic Records.
Melding folk, funk, rock and country, Chris’ accomplished acoustic guitar and ambient voice reverberate with attitude – curiosity and confidence in equal measure. Inducing feverish dancing during performances, the title track Mexican Eyes has become a live favourite for its addictive Spanish-tinged staccato strums and Chris’ surging vocals. Showing off Chris’ impressive musical and vocal range, the yearning melancholic masterpiece Happy rings with a relatable story of heartache and longing that’s earned it airplay on Triple J’s Roots ’n’ All program, as well as community radio station Triple Z.
Chris’ journey thus far has seen him perform at festivals such as Cockatoo Island in Sydney and A Day on the Green in Queensland this year, and has placed him on the same bill as the likes of Gomez, George, Pete Murray, Regurgitator, Tex Perkins and Bernard Fanning, whom he performed with at the Andrew Morris CD launch earlier this year.
Chris has supported the likes of Denvar, Palladium, Shifter, Paul Greene, Loren, Sean & Bronwyn of The Spoils, Halfday and Christian from Acre. He regularly plays at Brisbane music institutions Rics and The Troubadour and has performed at The Espy in Melbourne, the In the Bin Festival on the Gold Coast and Magnums at Airlie Beach.
Mexican Eyes marks a welcomed shift back to where Chris belongs; performing his music as the frontman of his craft.
